Thoughts for the Week

Each week, Pastor Warren has a Thought for the Week - just something to inspire us, challenge us to think more deeply, or perhaps to just find interesting or clever.

Here are some of the Thoughts of the Week from previous months.

"Our bad anger thus shows us to be trying - and failing - to be God. We are wrathful when we can't control things that hurt us and keep them at bay.  Our anger is ready to remedy this vulnerability by taking full control of establishing justice in the world and avenging any wrongs against us.  Wrath's expression therefore usually involves the assertion of control, even as - ironically enough - we lose control over ourselves when we are angry." - Rebecca DeYoung

“By means of affliction and cross-bearing God’s children make progress in sanctification.” -William Hendricksen, 1940

“What Scripture says, God says; for, in a manner comparable only to the deeper mystery of the Incarnation, the Bible is both fully human and fully divine . . .  Christians should be grateful to God for the gift of His written Word, and conscientious in basing their faith and life entirely and exclusively upon it.  Otherwise, we cannot ever honor or please Him as He calls us to do.” - J.I. Packer, Concise Theology: A Guide to Historic Christian Beliefs

David Powlison says, “...the way you treat your spouse reflects the way you treat God. The same things that cause distance in your relationship with God cause distance in your relationship with your spouse.” We would suggest that this principle probably applies to how we treat everybody, especially our brothers and sisters in Christ.

"We make a living by what we get.  We make a life by what we give" - Winston Churchill
